Assessment FAQs
Do I need a referral for an autism or ADHD assessment?
No, you do not need a referral to book an assessment.
If you are wishing to access the Complex Neurodevelopment pathway Medicare rebate (24yo and under only), you will need a referral from a psychiatrist or pediatrician. You can read more here on the Services Australia website.
Do you offer payment plans for assessments?
Yes! To help with affordability, all assessments can be paid over installments. Submit an enquiry to learn more.
Can autism and ADHD assessments be done via telehealth?
Yes, assessments can be completed via telehealth (video appointment).
Telehealth sessions are conducted securely and in much the same way as in-person appointments. You’ll need a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. If you have any concerns about using telehealth, you’re encouraged to discuss this with your psychologist.
What if I don’t have a strong memory of my childhood or any written records?
It’s very common for people to have limited recall of childhood or not have access to school reports or other records. In most cases, an assessment can still be completed using the information available.
Do I need a parent or someone else involved?
Input from a parent, caregiver, or someone who knows you well (past or present) is usually not required. Your psychologist will let you know if additional information would strengthen the assessment, and will work collaboratively to find an approach that feels appropriate and accessible.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes. Information you provide is treated confidentially in line with professional and legal requirements, and the limits to confidentiality will be explained at the beginning of the process. You are also in control of who you choose to share your assessment results with, unless there are legal or safety obligations that require information to be disclosed.
